As part of the Warburtons family, we’ve been baking high quality bakery products since 1876. So it’s fair to say that we know quite a lot about baking. And our gluten free business is no different, having begun back in 2011! Sit back with a cuppa and a crumpet, and delve back into some of our key milestones below.
PART OF THE WARBURTONS FAMILY
Thomas and Ellen Warburton opened their first grocery store in 1870, but it wasn’t until 1876 that Ellen started baking bread! The 5th generation of the Warburtons family have been actively managing the company since 1991 – moving Warburtons from a regional brand to the UK’s No.1 Bakery Brand* that we all know and love today.

BRINGING GLUTEN FREE TO THE MARKET
We launched Newburn Bakehouse – our dedicated Gluten, Wheat and Milk Free brand in 2011.
THE NATION’S FAVOURITE
We launched our tasty Tiger Bloomer in 2013, which quickly became the nation’s No.1 Wrapped Bread SKU.*

Newburn Bakehouse was rebranded to Warburtons Gluten Free back in 2018, bringing the Warburtons name to our products. This moment leads to the start of our current journey!
WE’RE ON A ROLL!
Our range of Soft Wrapped Rolls launched in 2021, becoming our most successful gluten free range! Our White Rolls fast became the UK’s No.1 Free From Bakery SKU!*
